Reception Children become ‘Code Breakers’

Posted: 15th October 2020

Code Breakers

The children in our Reception class become code breakers looking for the secret word hidden within the pictures. The code…what is the initial sound of each word presented in picture form.

Crack the code is a fun and practical way for children to apply their spelling and reading skills. This activity allows the children who are gaining confidence in blending sounds to read words; to practice identifying initial sounds before then challenging themselves to read the decoded CVC words.

Developing strong awareness of phonics skills in Little Conkers are key to a confident mindset to reading and writing throughout their education. These games are designed to help children incorporate multiple skills at once to build that ever important understanding that they can achieve if they try.
