The Arts

Performance and Creative Arts

Here at St John’s Priory School, we value all forms of creativity, with a comprehensive arts curriculum delivered by specialist teachers. Artistic expression is actively encouraged with opportunities to develop individual talent and to perform whether in ART, Drama or music. By involving pupils with opportunities across art, design, dance, drama and music, we hope that our pupils’ enjoyment of school life will be enhanced and that they develop personal skills and a cultural appreciation of the Arts that will last a lifetime.

Music

Music and performance play an important part of everyday life at the Priory, with pupils from Nursery to Year 6 enjoying weekly music and singing lessons, and pupils have the opportunity to play a variety of musical instruments through private tuition.

Drama

The end of year school production, performed at our local theatre in Banbury is a true highlight of the academic year for our pupils in Year 1 – Year 6, who all work collectively on delivering a high quality, enjoyable performance for their families. Past performances include: Aladdin, The Wind in the Willows, Dream On and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Art

We are proud of our rich and varied art curriculum. Our specialist art teacher works with pupils to produce high quality pieces using many different materials and techniques. The children are encouraged to observe the world around them, express their own individual creativity and above all have fun!

Extra-Curricular

We provide extensive extra-curricular opportunities including, Art, dance, musical theatre and wind band: supporting every child in developing curiosity, stimulating personal growth and encouraging critical thinking of the Arts.
