Children working together in a classroom

Our Identity

St John's Priory School is defined by its values, its people, and its ambition.
A school that values individuality while fostering a strong sense of belonging.

About Us

Established in 1847, St John's Priory School is a distinctive co-educational preparatory school and nursery for children aged 3–11, located in the heart of Banbury.

We combine the strength of tradition with a modern, forward-thinking approach to education, creating an environment where every child is supported to thrive academically and personally. Our intentionally small size allows us to understand each pupil as an individual. We place equal importance on academic achievement, confidence, creativity, and character, ensuring every child leaves us prepared for the next stage of their journey — not just academically, but as a well-rounded, capable individual.

In September 2024, St John's Priory School entered a new era under the ownership of Kane Andrews, with significant investment, a clear strategic vision, and an ambition to establish the school as a leading choice for families seeking excellence in education.

Our Ethos, Values & Aims

At St John's Priory School, our ethos is centred on a simple but powerful belief: every child should be known, valued and encouraged to become the very best version of themselves.

Be Bold. Be Brave. Be You.

Our school motto sits at the heart of school life. It reflects our commitment to developing confident, resilient and compassionate young people who are ready to embrace opportunities, overcome challenges and celebrate what makes them unique.

Our Values

Our four core values underpin our relationships, expectations and decision-making throughout the school. They are woven into everyday life at SJP through teaching and learning, assemblies, our House system, rewards, pupil leadership, pastoral care and opportunities to contribute to the wider school and local community. We encourage our children not simply to understand these values, but to live them every day.

Our Ethos

St John's Priory is a school where children are encouraged to discover, explore and belong.

We provide a nurturing and supportive environment in which each child is recognised as an individual. We believe children flourish when they feel safe, valued and understood, and when they are given the confidence to take appropriate risks, learn from mistakes and challenge themselves.

Our Aims

At St John's Priory School, we aim to:

Above all, we want St John's Priory to be a place where children are happy to come to school, feel proud of who they are and are inspired to learn, grow and thrive.

Perseverance • Honesty • Respect • Courage

Be Bold. Be Brave. Be You.
