Academic Success

At St John’s Priory school we establish firm academic foundations whilst simultaneously inspiring intellectual curiosity and a zest for learning. We have high expectations for all our children and through positive encouragement and excellent teaching children achieve their full potential both academically and socially.

Children are taught in bright, cheerful, well-equipped classrooms with stimulating displays and our Learning Support Specialist and Teaching Assistants and play a key role in the academic process, ensuring that children of all abilities achieve their full potential and are offered support or challenges as necessary.

Learning outside the classroom is greatly encouraged at St John’s Priory and the children enjoy many trips and excursions. Our Year 6 children visit France every year.

We have a dedicated ICT suite and all children have a designated computer and area on the network. Classrooms have digital projectors and internet links as well as more traditional teaching equipment.  English, Maths, Science, French and Spanish are the core subjects for our academic programme.  Other subjects included in our broad curriculum are; History and Geography, Religious Studies, ICT, Drama, Music, Art, Design & Technology and PHSE.

A regular process of evaluation, assessment and target setting informs teachers of pupils’ progress, enabling us to keep parents informed as to each child’s progress so that we can work together to develop their potential. As well as parents’ evenings, parents are welcome to discuss their child’s progress at any time.
