St John's Priory Genes for Jeans

St John’s Priory School was proud to adopt St John’s Orphanage also known as “Ithembalihle” near Durban in South Africa as its chosen school charity.  The children, parents and staff at St John’s Priory School are pleased to help raise funds for Ithembalihle through a number of fundraising initiatives including the summer fete, cake sales, events and a SMARTIE campaign which raised £590.

St John’s Orphanage is run by Thandiwe Ngobo in a small house and church where she cares for a number of young people, many of whom are very ill.  There are 16 children ranging in age from 18 months to 17 years who live in very difficult circumstances. As well as looking after the children, St John’s Orphanage serves as a focal point for the community and is a “beacon” of hope for local people.

The Orphanage is supported by GAGA – Goodwill & Growth in Africa UK (GAGA). GAGA is a small local charity which supports projects in Africa with a predominate focus on Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa. Their broad aim is “generating growth for children and communities devastated by HIV-AIDS & poverty, through the goodwill of people in the UK”.

For more information visit GAGA’s website Registered Charity No. 1092028

Our school supports other charities including Comic Relief, Camo Day, Children in Need, Jeans for Genes Day and the Samaritan’s Purse project Operation Christmas Child.
