SJP Reading guide for parents

At St John’s Priory, we believe that enjoying books and stories from a very early age is a crucial element of your child’s development. It helps with their ability to understand language; acclimatises them to a range of experiences; encourages them to use their imagination; and aids speech, social and intellectual development.

More importantly it brings great pleasure, and at St John’s Priory School our children enjoy nothing more than the opportunity to lose themselves in a book!

Pupils at St John’s Priory consistently exceed end of key stage national standards, with 100% of pupils achieving a level 5 or 6 in reading last year. We believe that a close partnership between home and school is essential for children to benefit most from their time at our school. In turn, we have compiled a ‘Reading Guide Booklet’ to inform parents of the school’s reading policy and to provide you with information which will enable you to support your child at home with their reading.
