We believe children enter education eager and ready to learn. All children come to school with individual experiences and interests, and at the Priory, we encourage children to explore, experiment and find out new things about the world. Through providing opportunities which allow children to continue to build upon their experiences and interests, while developing a firm grasp of key concepts enabling them to access the next stage of education.
At St John’s Priory, we understand all children learn the same thing in different ways and we cater of children’s individual needs through providing as close to a bespoke curriculum as possible, the numbers in each class allow the teaching staff one to one time with each child. Thus providing a balance of self-initiated learning experiences alongside adult directed learning tasks, ensuring all children become confident, independent learners who truly believe in their ability to achieve.
We offer a broad curriculum using ‘Development Matters’ document as a starting point. This is based on three prime areas of learning:
- Personal, Social and emotional development
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
which are interconnected with the Specific areas:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
All children within the Early Years setting receive specialist teaching in:
- French
- Spanish
- Drama
- Music and Magical Adventures
