Outdoor Learning

Understanding of the world: Outdoor learning

All classes in the Early Years open out onto an designated outside area for the children to enjoy playing games and take part in their learning activities. Sports lessons take place on the lawn. We encourage the children to be outside as much as possible and there is a covered outdoor area for learning in all weathers.

There are lots of opportunities for the children to explore their outside surroundings; by planting vegetables and seedlings in the SJP vegetable patch, playing in the sand and soil pits, the SJP Mud kitchen, or simply to colour in the sunshine on our junior picnic benches.

Weekly Forest school lessons:

Children in our Reception class enjoy weekly forest school sessions in local woodland, which helps to support our children’s experiences of the world around them. Frequent trips and visits enhance a broad and balanced curriculum.
